Let Go of This Social Media Habit

Updated: May 29, 2023

Take it from Elsa. She wants you to let it go too.
Β

I sure did.

πŸ’– Let go of the need to have a pristine Instagram feed.

Now, β€œletting go” doesn't mean having low resolution photos or graphics with the text cut off.

Rather, I urge you to stop handcuffing yourself to a template series or grid pattern only to have captions devoid of heart, because you don't feel inspired by what you're posting. Don't get me wrong, I believe in the scroll-stopping power of a beautiful image. Aesthetic is important, but content is queen. πŸ‘‘

Content quality and storytelling should be the most important things as you plan your feed. Let what you're going to say guide your graphics. Your images are the supporting act, not the main event.

Reminder: Great marketers are also great storytellers. πŸ“–

Handcuffing yourself to the perfect feed will affect your ability to be creative and enjoy social media. When social media becomes a chore or the thing on your to-do list that you dread tackling, it's time to pause, reevaluate your process and rejigger your content strategy.

Before you get working, I'm sharing three tips to help you stop focusing on aesthetics and get back to creating standout content.

πŸ’œ Don't compare yourself to others

We know, you've heard this so many times in your personal life and in business. But here's the thing, you have no idea what's going on behind-the-scenes on that account you're Instagram stalking. You don't know who is managing it and how much money they are putting into it because you have zero background information! Instead of focusing on what others are doing, hone in on what you want to share to connect with your ideal tribe.

πŸ’› Set aside specific time to feel inspired

Set boundaries and don't always feel inclined to plan every post in advance. Save some room for on-the-spot, spontaneous posts and bake them into your overarching content calendar. For example, on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, have a post pre-written and scheduled, but on Mondays and Wednesdays, post about what you're inspired by that day or share a spontaneous story.

πŸ’š Remind yourself that a pretty picture attracts, but a strong captions connects

A scroll-stopping photo will always draw a like and many will eventually illicit a follow, but imagery paired with inspired and passionate captions will lead to authentic connections and long-lasting digital relationships.

Alright, friends, go back out there and focus on the quality of your content! The amazing graphic and the perfect image to pair with it will follow. I promise.
